My Mountain Data

Mountain snow & snowpack

Observed daily snow depth and snow water equivalent at selected Sierra SNOTEL stations, with station elevations and a seven-day depth trend.

Sierra snow observations

Measured snow depth and snow water equivalent are station readings, not resort snow reports. Forecast snow level on weather pages is a separate estimate of the rain/snow transition.

Depth and water equivalent

Snow depth measures how deep the snowpack is at a station. Snow water equivalent (SWE) estimates the water held in that snow and helps describe the pack’s water content; it is not a snowfall total. Station readings represent their specific elevation and exposure, so use nearby stations and the linked NRCS map for regional context.

Snow across the West

These stations cover parts of the Sierra and Tahoe area. They do not measure every mountain location. Open the NRCS snow map for broader coverage, or California DWR snow reports for California snow surveys.
